North East Somerset and Hanham is a constituency of strong towns, villages, and suburban communities, each with its own identity, priorities, and local pressures.
Our area stretches from Keynsham and Saltford to Hanham, Longwell Green, Bitton and Oldland Common, as well as the Chew Valley and the wider rural villages across North East Somerset. It covers communities across Bath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire, which means local people are too often affected by decisions taken by councils that do not always reflect the needs of the places they represent.
That is why local representation matters.
Whether it is unfair parking charges, rising council tax, overdevelopment, pressure on roads and transport, or the decline of local services, the issues facing our area are real and immediate. The people who live here want practical solutions, competent local leadership, and representatives who understand the difference between a suburban ward, a market town, and a rural village community.
We believe every part of North East Somerset and Hanham deserves to be heard properly and represented seriously.
The communities we represent
North East Somerset and Hanham includes a wide range of communities, including:
- Keynsham
- Saltford
- Hanham
- Longwell Green
- Warmley
- Oldland Common
- Bitton
- Paulton
- Timsbury
- High Littleton
- The Chew Valley villages
- Publow, Whitchurch and surrounding communities
These places are not all the same, and they should not be treated as though they are. What works for Bath does not necessarily work for Saltford. What matters in Hanham is not always the same as what matters in Chew Valley or High Littleton. Good local politics starts by recognising that.

A constituency with shared concerns
Across the constituency, people repeatedly raise the same broad themes.
They want to see sensible planning rather than development imposed without regard for local character. They want roads, transport and public services that actually work. They want town and village centres supported, not undermined. They want councils that respect taxpayers and understand that people in local communities do not exist simply to absorb the consequences of bad decisions made elsewhere.
In Bath & North East Somerset, many residents rightly feel that towns and villages outside Bath are too often treated as an afterthought. In South Gloucestershire, residents are increasingly frustrated by policies that make everyday life harder without delivering meaningful improvements in return. Across both council areas, people are looking for serious local representation that is rooted in the community and prepared to speak plainly.
Why this matters
North East Somerset and Hanham is not a constituency that should be overlooked, taken for granted, or spoken for by people who do not understand it.
It is made up of proud communities with a strong sense of place. They deserve representatives who will stand up for them, challenge poor decisions, and make the case for sensible, local, accountable government.
That is what we are here to do.
